Why do tires explode on the motorway?
Seven youths
of Lahore died in a road accident yesterday. The reason was the burst tire of
the vehicle. Incidents of vehicle tires bursting on important newly constructed
expressways and motorways are coming to light these days. Many people
are losing their lives every day. One day the question came to my mind why most
accidents are happening on modern roads in the country? And there is only one
way to crash and that too only by tire burst. The highway builders have put
such spikes on the road that everyone's tires burst. Brainstormed so I thought
I should figure this out today. So, the team gathered to find out. Now listen
we invited a friend for the experience, and we got into a KIA SUV. (Note
that the real problem is the flat tire).
First, we
checked the cold tire pressure and adjusted it according to the international
standards which is 25 psi which is the same air pressure kept in vehicles of
all developed countries. When people in our country don't know this or they
overinflate tires to save fuel. which is usually 35 to 45 psi. Well, let's move
on now. After that, we got in the three-lane and drove the car. The speed of the
vehicle was kept at 120 - 140 kmph. After driving at such a high speed for two
hours, we reached Islamabad. When we stopped and checked the tire pressure
again, it was shocking. The tire pressure was now 52 psi. Now the question
arises, how did the tire pressure increase so much?
When a thermometer was attached to the tire for this, the
temperature of the tire was 92.5 degrees Celsius. The whole mystery has been
solved now that the air inside the tires is expanding due to the friction of
the tires on the road and the heat generated by the friction of the brakes. The
air pressure inside a B2B tire is greatly increased.
Since our tires were already inflated to
international standards, they were spared from bursting. But tires with higher
air pressure (35-45 PSI) or a tire with a cut are more likely to blow. So, fix
your tire pressure and enjoy a safe ride before heading to the three lanes. I
also request the Motorway and Expressway Authority to inform the drivers.
